Santa Maria Piquinto Bean

A small pink bean from the Central Coast of California which is renowned for flavor, Santa Maria is remarkably productive and easy to grow. I got the seed from a friend whose mother has always grown these beans. They are often slow cooked in a spicy, smoky, barbeque sauce, and are quite a treat. One thing I found amazing is they do not shatter. I left them on the vines this season long after frost, and used a rake to pull the vines, Not a single pod broke open. That makes for an easy harvest! A packet contains about 80 beans, enough for several rows.
